En nattmacka för fina fisken

Antidoron är Neuroticfishs mörkaste album. Första singeln “Hysteria” handlar om mental ohälsa och självmordstankar. I Sverige tog lite drygt 1 500 människor sitt liv i fjol och ytterligare nära 8 000 försökte. Kanske är det för att han inte har engelska som förstaspråk som låtskrivaren Sascha Mario Klein vågar och kan vara så saklig och direkt. (Angreppssättet, ur ett svenskt synthperspektiv, påminner om The Mobile Homes som på sina första två skivor på ett låtsat enkelt och samtidigt urstarkt sätt avhandlade stora frågor, t ex hustrumisshandel och miljöförstöring i “Afraid”, depression i “Lost the Lust” och ensamhet i “I’ll Never Find Anyone”.)

Klein sjunger på “Hysteria”, naket och trovärdigt:

Flera låtar på albumet handlar om samma ämne, t ex mollstämda “Walk Alone” med dess fina överstämma, fina balladen “Lovely Walls” och avslutande “Invisible” som handlar om att uppmärksamma medmänniskor. Neuroticfish skrev på Facebook när Hysteria-videon lanserades att ämnet låg dem nära hjärtat. I samma post uppmanar de olyckliga medmänniskor att vända sig till suicidpreventiva instanser och inte låta det gå för långt.

Albumet börjar stilla med mäktiga “Colourblind” och “Walk Alone” och det är först med upptempo-låten “Fluchtreflex” som det börjar ta sig och Neuroticfish visar sin storhet och osvikliga förmåga att kombinera synthpop med techno. Låten har en ljus, fin och ettrig melodislinga som snabbt sätter sig. Det är en av årets finaste futurepoplåtar. “Honesty” är tyvärr mer tjatig än bra. “Hold of Me” är en riktig höjdare med en vacker och smart basgång och snygga cut-up röster. “What is Wrong” har ett fint driv och suggestiv överstämma. Ljudbilden är som vanligt oantastlig. Neuroticfish levererar.

Det heliga brödet Antidoron når inte riktigt upp till Michelinklassmackan Gelb (2005) men albumet är i stort sätt lika bra som förra albumet A Sign of Life (2015). Det är futurepop av absolut världsklass. Antidoron gick direkt in på förstaplatsen på DAC-listan (Deutsche Alternative Charts). Där kommer den att ligga ett tag.

The best fish around goes darker

Antidoron is Neuroticfish’s darkest album. The first single “Hysteria” is about mental illness and suicidal deliberations. In Sweden with 10 million inhabitants, more than 1 500 persons took their own lives in 2017, and almost 8 000 persons tried to. Songwriter Sascha Mario Klein has a very direct and objective way of dealing with these subject matters, perhaps because he does not have English as his native language? From a Swedish perspective, this approach reminds me of Swedish synth band The Mobile Homes and their first two albums from the early 90’ties where they, in a very simplistic manner dealt with e.g. wife batting and pollution in “Afraid”, depression in “Lost the Lust” and loneliness in “I’ll Ever Find Anyone”. Klein sings in “Hysteria”, naked and believable;

Hate – I can embrace it

There are more songs on the album that is about the same subject, e.g. minor tuned “Walk Alone” with a fine bright pitch, the charming ballad “Lovely Walls” and the last song “Invisible” with the emphasis on attention towards fellow creatures. When the Hysteria-video was released Neuroticfish wrote in a Facebook post about suicide prevention and that nobody should go that far and reach for help. The mental illness subject lay them close to the heart.

The album starts with mighty “Colourblind” and “Walk Alone” and it is first with the third song “Fluchtreflex” when Neuroticfish shows their greatness and unavoidable ability to combine uptempo techno with synth pop. The song has a bright, fine and fiery melody that is very catchy. It is one of the best futurepop songs of 2018. Honesty is nagging and could be the weakest track. “Hold of Me” is a beautiful song with clever bass and neat cut-up voices. “What is Wrong” has a powerful beat and suggestive choir.

Neuroticfish delivers once again with the Antidoron album and the soundscape is rich and powerful in the way we appreciate with them. Unfortunately, this holy antidoron bread does not reach the Michelin culinary sandwich standards that Gelb did in 2005. But it is equal to the prior album A Sign of Life (2015) which means world-class futurepop. Antidoron entered in the first place directly in the DAC list (Deutsche Alternative Charts), it will stay there for some time.

Vilket livstecken!

Neuroticfish måste tillsammans med Moskwa TV vara två av de mest underskattade banden i synthvärldshistorien. Neuroticfishs förra album “Gelb” (2005) hör hemma på en tio-i-topp-lista över elektroniska mästerverk bredvid “Black Celebration”, “Trans Europe Express”, “Disintegation”, “Remission & Bites”, “That Total Age”, “Empires”, “Who Watches Over Me?”, “You and Me Both” m fl, ja ni förstår, d v s tillsammans med skivor av allra högsta klass, fyllda av skönhet, intelligens, originalitet och djup sammanhållen samtidskunskap.

Jag sörjde när Neuroticfish 2008 på WGT kungjorde att det var dags att dra sig tillbaka och trodde aldrig att det skulle komma en uppföljare till “Gelb”. Det ryktades om en ny skiva 2012. 2013 dök “Illusion of Home” upp på Soundcloud och fick över tusen spelningar på ett dygn. Men det skulle alltså dröja ytterligare ett par år innan Sascha Mario Klein, sångare och frontman, och keyboardisten Henning Verlage blev klara med nya albumet “A Sign of Life”.

Men vilket livstecken! Neuroticfish är det enda tyska synthbandet med genuin klass. Där samtliga tyska konkurrenter på någon eller åtskilliga punkter fallerar, levererar Neuroticfish. Sången är bra, stark och varierad, texterna vettiga och vemodiga, ljuden utsökta, beatsen hårda, diskanten ljus, kall och eterisk, melodierna starka och sköna och helheten sammanhållen, stram och koherent. De har t o m humor. På “Gelb” på “They’re Coming to Take You Away” och på “A Sign of Life” på EBM-pastischen “Is It Dead”, små Happy People-utvikningar för att tala Yazoo-språk.

Sascha Klein sa i en intervju med Side-Line att de velat kombinera dubstep, psy-trance och complextro med sång. Resultatet, “A Sign of Life”, är futurepop i världsklass. Från introt “Rose” över singeln “Silence”, ett intro helt i paritet med VNV Nations intro på “Futureperfect” där “Foreword” övergår i “Epicentre”, samma kyliga kvinnoröst som Fade to Grey-vackert kommenterar en stycke stram ambient. De långsammare låtarna har tyngd och allvar, t ex “Caliban” och “The Creep”. Upptempolåtarna: “Former Me”, “Agony” och “Behaviour” är synthtechno av finaste märke. Albumet är en njutning att lyssna på hela vägen till avslutande “Illusions of Home”.

Albumet gick in som fyra på tyska DAC-listan (Deutsche Alternative Charts). Det tog två veckor för den att bli etta, att den inte ligger etta fortfarande ett halvår senare är en gåta. Det här är årets hittills bästa synthskiva.

What a Sign! (of life)

Neuroticfish and Moskwa TV has to be the two most underestimated bands of the electronic music history. Neuroticfish’s album “Gelb” is an electronic masterpiece and it stand beside “Black Celebration”, “Trans Europe Express”, “Disintegation”, “Remission & Bites”, “That Total Age”, “Empires”, “Who Watches Over Me?”, “You and Me Both” on my top ten list, well. It is an album of highest quality, outermost sofistication, filled with beauty, intelligence, originality, sensitivity and creativity.

I mourned when Neuroticfish in 2008 at WGT announced that they would take a step back and thought there would never be new album. But in 2012 there where some rumours about a new album and in 2013 they published the song “Illusion of Home” on their Soundcloud page. It received a thousand listenings in one day. It would take two more years for lead singer and frontman Sascha Mario Klein and keybord player Henning Verlage to finalize the new Neuroticfish album “A Sign of Life”.

But what a sign! Neuroticfish is the one and only German top class synth band. Where every other German act fails on one or more quality parameters, Neuroticfish deliver, across the line. The vocals are strong, and the lyrics personal and intelligent, bringing insights to contemporary life in Western societies, the beats are hard, the treble bright and ethereal, the melodies are beautiful works of pop art and the overall aesthetic sensation is tight and cohesive. They even got humour! On “Gelb” in “They’re Coming to Take You Away” and on the new album in the EBM pastiche “Is It Dead”. A Yazoo-ish Happy People-song with a fine fettle. In other words “A Sign of Life” is a coherent piece of art.

Sascha Klein said to Side-Line in a recent interview that he wanted to combine dubstep, psy-trance och complextro with pop vocals. The result is world class futurepop. From the intro, “Rose”, to the single “Silence”, a starting point as powerful as VNV Nation’s on “Futureperfect”, where “Foreword” transforms to “Epicentre” with a wintry female song Fade to Grey-covering an ambient tune, until the fine end, “Illusions of Home”. The slow songs, e.g. “Caliban” and “The Creep” showcase depth and seriousness. The upbeat songs, “Former Me”, “Agony” and “Behaviour” are all synth pop of noblest rank with a fine touch of techno.

It took “A Sign of Life” two weeks to reach the number one position on the German Alternative Chart (DAC). I can not understand why it is not ranked number one anymore, some six months later, because this is the best synth album of the year.

Tyska Neuroticfish, som består av låtskrivaren och sångaren Sascha Mario Klein tillsammans med keyboardisten och tillika producenten Henning Verlage, albumdebuterade med “No Instruments” (1999).

2002 fick duon sitt stora genombrott med “Les Chansons Neurotiques” (2002) och efter 2005 års “Gelb” så är duon inom kort redo att äntligen kunna presentera det sedan länge uppskjutna nya albumet “A Sign of Life”.

EP:n “Limited Behaviour” släpptes förra året tillsammans med musikvideon till “Silence” (se nedan) och nu släpps låten även som femspårssingel med remixer signerade bland andra Frozen Plasma och Rotersand.

“Silence” släpps den 12 december.

Den tyska duon Neuroticfish, som består av sångaren och låtskrivaren Sascha Mario Klein tillsammans med producenten och keyboardisten Henning Verlage är inom kort åter albumaktuella med “A Sign of Life”. Här är det första (fulla) smakprovet – “Former Me”. Spåret är hämtad från den kraftigt begränsade “Behavior EP” som släpptes tidigare i år. Enjoy!

Precis som vi rapporterade i somras så är Neuroticfish inom kort åter albumaktuella med “A Sign of Life” som är planerad för släpp senare under året. Det kommande albumet är det första livstecknet från den tyska duon sedan man släppte “Gelb” under 2005. Här kommer det första smakprovet – “Former Me”. Enjoy!

Efter 2005 års studioalbum “Gelb” så blev det (bortsett från 2008 års samlingsskiva “A Greater Good – History 1998-2008”) plötsligt förvånande och tvärt väldigt tyst från tyska Neuroticfish. Bandet var stilbildande under det sena nittiotalet och början av 2000-talets futurepopvåg med sin unika mix av EBM och synthpop.

Nu annonserar den tyska duon, som består av låtskrivaren och sångaren Sascha Mario Klein och keyboardisten och producenten Henning Verlage, att de sakta men säkert har börjat skriva nytt material till ett kommande album som beräknas vara färdigt att introduceras till vintern 2012/våren 2013.

Neuroticfish bildades 1995 och gjorde officiell debut med EP’n “Music For A Paranormal Life” fyra år senare (1999). Denna följdes i sin tur upp med albumet “No Instruments”, som släpptes via lilla VISION Records, det tyska skivbolaget som när det begav sig även släppte skivor med svenska S.P.O.C.K. och DAF-sidoprojektet DAF/DOS.

Det ordentliga genombrottet gjorde bandet med det andra albumet “Les Chansons Neurotiques” (2002), som innehöll hits som bland annat “Wake Me Up” och “Prostitute”. De två låtarna släpptes även som singlar under 2001 respektive 2002.
