Med färre hits men högre intensitet
John Van Roys evighetsmaskin Suicide Commando släpper nu sitt nya album “Forest of the Impaled” på Out of Line Music och skänker världen nio nya låtar att njuta av. Albumet innehåller elva spår, men “The Pain that you Like” (med gästspel av Jean-Luc från Front 242) och “Crack Up” släpptes på maxi-CD:n “The Pain that you Like” redan 2015.
Suicide Commando lever verkligen upp till bilden av sig själv och avviker inte en tum från sin formula på “Forest of the Impaled”. Johan Van Roy skriver melodislingor att dö för vilka ackompanjeras av blytunga basgångar och skönt distad sång. Tempot är överlag högre än på föregångaren “When Evil Speaks” och det gör albumet intensivare, men samtidigt något mer enformigt.
På öppningsspåret “The Gates of Oblivion” är det ingen mindre än Nero Bellum från Psyclone Nine som står för sången och det låter fräscht, rått och intensivt. Jag trodde inte att någon skulle kunna mäta sig med Johan som sångare på ett Suicide Commando-spår, men Nero Bellum kommer farligt nära. Sången är dessutom utomordentligt väl producerad och tydlig vilket är en stor bonus.
“Forest of the Impaled” är en fantastiskt bra skiva även om den har färre omedelbara hits jämfört med föregångaren “When Evil Speaks”, men varje låt har en fin förmåga att växa med tiden. “Forest of the Impaled” kommer utan tvekan att vara ett av mina personliga favoritalbum för året.

With fewer hits but higher intensity
Johan Van Roy’s everlasting machine Suicide Commando now releases the new album “Forest of the Impaled” on Out of Line Music and gives the world nine new songs to enjoy. The album contains eleven tracks, but “The Pain That You Like” (with a guest appearance by Jean-Luc from Front 242) and “Crack Up” was released alleady on the Maxi CD “The Pain That You Like” back in 2015.
Suicide Commando really lives up to it’s image and doesn’t deviate an inch from its formula on the “Forest of the Impaled”. Johan Van Roy writes melodies to die for which are accompanied by dark and groova basslines and nicely distorted vocals. The tempo is overall higher than on the predecessor “When Evil Speaks” and makes the album more intense, but at the same time somewhat more uniform.
On the opening track “The Gates of Oblivion”, includes a guest appearance by none the less than Nero Bellum from Psyclone Nine, and it sounds fresh, raw and intense. I did not think anyone could measure up with Johan as a singer on a Suicide Commando track, but Nero Bellum comes frightenly close. The song is also exceptionally well-produced with clear-to-hear vocals which is a big bonus.
“Forest of the Impaled” is a great record, although it has fewer immediate hits compared to the predecessor “When Evil Speaks”, but each song has a good ability to grow over time. “Forest of the Impaled” will by no doubt become one of my favorite albums this year.
