Sexigast och bäst 2015
Brittiska morgontidningen The Guardian uppskattade inte Neros nya album “Between II Worlds” nämnvärt, vilket var fullständigt obegripligt men helt i linje med en alltför vanligt förekommande föreställning om att det som en gång varit partymusik alltid ska vara partymusik. Neros “Between II Worlds” överträffar nämligen deras debutalbum “Welcome Reality” (2011) med råge. 2015 tillhandahåller Nero variation, djup och en sexig intelligens – modern synth när den är som allra bäst. Och något de inte riktigt hade 2011 när de släppte debutalbumet “Welcome Reality”. Nyord som dubstep, trap och electroclash kan med all rätt behäftas med vissa av låtarna men för oss som har synthen i blodet är det här synth i ordets redan inneboende innovativa betydelse.
Både CHVRCHES och Purity Ring fick till fantastiska andraalbum under 2015 men de har båda en bra bit kvar till Neros eteriskt stratosfäriska verkshöjd. Neros beats är hårdare, ljuden Skrillex-nipprigare och Alana Watsons röst mer Kate Bush och konstnärligt fulländad än något annat 2015. Albumet fick en rättmätig förstaplats på Billboards lista Dance/Electronic Albums, som tidigare hette Top Electronic Albums, och borde givetvis ha legat etta på alla listor i hela världen om vi levt på en bättre planet.
Inledande “Circles” är årets bästa låt. Det är fullständigt obegripligt att den inte givits ut som singel. Här finns den mjuka basen, Watson sexiga viskande stämma som stegras till ett par strukna c i en årets sexigaste refränger med den mjukaste droppen i mannaminne. Hitten “Satisfy” är en dansgolvsrökare med samma technokvalitet som förra hitsingeln “Promises” (2011). En otroligt snygg basgång värdigt en dieseldoftande EBM-hit kombineras med Watsons eteriska stämma och snygga synthharmonier. Singlarna “Two Minds” och “The Thrill” är enastående pop, särskilt den förra med en bedårande enkel poprefräng. Instrumentella ledmotivet “Between II Worlds” är med sina 7 minuter och 21 sekunder en modern “My Secret Garden”.
“Between II Worlds” är en svart högtidsstund och bör placeras bredvid “Black Celebration” och liknande mästerverk i skivhörnan som några av oss använder som altare. Vilka andra än Nero får en att både vilja älska och bränna ner Rom? Helst samtidigt?

The sexiest and best album of 2015
The Guardian played down Nero’s “Between II Worlds” in their review with the remark that party musicians should stick to party music. I disagree with the argument and find “Between II Worlds” is so much better than the EDM debute album “Welcome Reality” (2011). In 2015 Nero offer variation, aesthetic depth and sexy intelligence. They were not even close to this in 2011. It is contemporary synth music at its best. Fancy labels like dubstep, trap and electroclash may be applicable to certain songs but it is synth, as we want it and need it.
Both CHVRCHES and Purity Ring made extraordinary second albums in 2015 but they are both beaten by Nero and the astonishing synth music achivement. Nero’s beats are harder, the sounds more Skrillex intruiging and the epic voice of Alana Watson more Kate Bush-artistic. The album went to a number one position on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums list. It should have been on every list all over the world.
The first song, “Circles”, is the best song of 2015 and it should be a single, in a perfect world. The bass is deep but soft, Watson’s sexy whispering voice building up to a breathtaking chorus in some underlined c’s. “Circles” contains the softest drop in recent years. The hit single “Satisfy” is a floorfiller with supreme techno qualities in a straigth line from the 2011 hit single “Promises”. The diesel generator bass is worthy a german EBM act in combination with Watson’s ethereal voice and stylish synth arrangements is perfect. The two singles “Two Minds” and “The Thrill” are matchless pop, the chorus in “Two Minds” is so simple and outstanding at the same time. The instrumental “Between II Worlds” with its 7 minutes and 21 seconds is a modern Depeche Mode “My Secret Garden” (1982) song.
“Between II Worlds” is a black celebration and should be placed next to Depeche Mode’s masterpiece in the record collection that some of us use as an altar. Who but Nero make you want to make love and burn down Rome at the same time?
