Året Kite inte gjorde årets bästa EP
Det konstiga året 2015 blev året Kite inte gav ut årets bästa svenska EP. Kite brädades nämligen av Closure med debut-EP:n “Closure”.
Closure är något av en supergrupp med konstnärliga sångerskan Ninsun Poli, kände Kent-basisten Martin Sköld, och Johan Wohler från Mew. Och som om inte det vore en tillräcklig bedrift att bräda Kite så passar de samtidigt på att leverera all ny Kent-musik man kan behöva under ett år.
Första låten “Creatures” inleds som en sval Kent-hit med en pianomelodislinga ovanpå ett mjukt beat med Ninsun Polis fina sång som växer sig starkare och starkare fram till något som bara måste beskrivas som en omisskänlig Kent-driven refräng. Fast i den här tappningen med ännu bättre röst och på popvärldsspråket engelska – förstår ni hur bra resultatet blir? I “Creatures” återfinns allt kärleksvemod en poplåt kan förväntas uppbringa.
EP:n fortsätter med den rockiga balladen “Sing” i vilken Poli får ta i och visa upp sin vackra röst och ypperliga frasering i all dess storslagenhet t o m kryddat med ett ytterst välavvägt f-ord. Det är en av årets två bästa ballader, trots att den i likhet med Kents två senaste album samtidigt har mycket disco över sig och för en gammal syntharsjäl utmärkt ljudbild.
För “10000 Times Harder” får Closure betyget MVG i upptempoballadkunskap. En fullständigt förtjusande historia med en fin elgitarrslinga som ackompanjerar den fina refrängen:
“And you say that it’s easy/But I know now/It’s 10000 harder than you think/And you say that you don’t care/But I know now/you care so much more than you want to admit” och så ett bitterljuvt lalala:ande på detta. Ja, ni förstår ju själva, vi talar om den ståpälsen.
Sist, och minst, är “Snowflakes in Spring”. En fin ballad med ännu ett tjusigt röstcrescendo i refrängen från Poli. På en Kent-platta hade det varit en mellanlåt men med Polis röst och finpopsnickeriet från hela supergruppen så låter “Snowflakes in Spring” också som en hit.

The year that Kite didn’t make the EP of the year
Every year the Swedish electro duo Kite has released a new EP it has been the best Swedish EP of the year. But not in 2015. Kite’s “VI” was beautiful but nevertheless it was beaten by Closure with the EP “Closure”.
The EP starts with “Creatures”. For anybody familiar with the sound of Swedish arena-indie band Kent the song is easy recognisable, it could have been on their latest album “Tigerdrottning” (The Tiger Queen, 2014). There is a fine piano melody over a soft disco beat with the great voice of Ninsun Poli that grows until the final chorus. “Creatures” has strong hit potential. Since Miss Poli is a better vocalist than Joakim Berg in Kent “Creatures” is the perfect song for everybody concerned about a year without any new materials from Kent. Closure is providing the best substitute possible. “Creatures” contains all the love melancholy feellings one can wish for in a pop song.
The second tune “Sing” is a rock’n’roll ballad. Poli’s intense singing, her personal phrasing and a perfect put f-word makes “Sing” one of the two best ballads in 2015. For “10000 Times Harder” they get the highest grade in uptempo ballad music composition. It is a delightful song with a fine guitar melody with direct appeal that accopanies the chorus: ”And you say that it’s easy/But I know now/It’s 10000 harder than you think/And you say that you don’t care/But I know now/you care so much more than you want to admit”
“10000 Times Harder” ends with a bittersweet la-la-la. What more can you wish from a pop song? It gives me goose-skin.
The EP ends with “Snowflakes in Spring”, another fine ballad with inspiring vocals from Poli in the chorus.
The members of Closure are no newcomers, the singer Ninsun Poli has released over twenty songs in her own name and worked with Swedish electro-funk band Familjen among others, Martin Sköld actually plays bass in Swedish indie-giants Kent and Johan Wohler is a member of Mew. Together as Closure they have made the best EP in 2015.
