Muskulös och dansant Nitzer Ebb-hyllning
NZ är en ny akt som redan har tagit synthvärlden med storm. Rykten har spridit sig om deras klassiska Hitlerjugend-utseende och röjiga liveshower. De må vara nya aktörer, men de framför ett välbekant sound. Mycket välbekant. Både bandnamnet, estetiken, låttexterna och musiken är starkt influerade av Nitzer Ebb. Eftersom kopplingen är så stark och uppenbar tänker jag på NZ som ett tributeband snarare än ett plagiatband. En bandidentitet som är helt oförarglig – så länge tributen sker på ett snyggt sätt.
“Against you!” är bandets tredje EP. Den innehåller fem välproducerade och dansvänliga spår. EP:ns natur kan beskrivas med hjälp av en matliknelse. NZ har tillverkat “Against you!” genom att kasta ner Nitzer Ebbs “Body of Work” i en matberedare. Matberedaren har delat upp och blandat om råvarorna. Därefter har NZ hällt upp denna Nitzermixtur i fem smoothieglas. Varje smoothie representerar en egen låt, och smoothiekollektionen som helhet är “Against you!”. Smoothiesarna är lika delikata som i originalform, eftersom de innehåller samma beståndsdelar. Det enda som har förändrats är konstellationerna i vilka ingredienserna förekommer, och vem som serverar dem.
Ljudet är rent och slipat och rösten har precis rätt mängd ilska för att matcha den ettriga musiken. Låtarna “Chase’N’Pain”, “One Of Us” och “So Cold Inside” är riktigt muskelmustiga. Dessa låtar skulle jag vilja uppleva live. Jag föreställer mig hur dessa låtar förvandlar dansgolvet till en svettig naken-moshpit.
Om jag ville lyssna på den här typen av musik hemma skulle jag nog hellre sätta igång Nitzer Ebb. Men NZ har ändå något att erbjuda som Nitzer Ebb inte har – liveshower. Nitzer Ebb har inte liveturnerat som band på ett par år. Den senaste tiden har sångaren Douglas McCarthy istället fokuserat på sitt sidoprojekt Fixmer/McCarthy. Nitzer Ebbs frånvaro har skapat en lucka i livesynthvärlden. En lucka som NZ skulle kunna fylla! Jag tror att NZ kommer kunna göra succé genom att agera plåster på såren för oss Nitzersörjare.

Muscular and dancable Nitzer Ebb-tribute
NZ is a new act that has already taken the EBM-scene by storm. Rumors have spread about their classic Hitlerjugend-look and actionfilled live shows. They may be new players, but they present a familiar sound. Very familiar. Both the band name, the aesthetics, the lyrics and the music are strongly influenced by Nitzer Ebb. Because the connection is so strong and obvious, I think of NZ as a tribute band rather than a copycat-band. A band identity that is completely harmless – as long as the tribute is done properly.
“Against you!” is the band’s third EP. It contains five well produced and danceable tracks. The nature of the EP can be described using a foodreference. NZ has made “Against you!” by throwing down Nitzer Ebb’s “Body of Work” in a food processor. The food processor has divided and mixed the ingredients. This Nitzerpotion has then been poured into five smoothie glasses. Each smoothie represents its own song, and the smoothie collection as a whole is “Against you!”. The smoothies are as delicate as in the original form, since they contain the same ingredients. The only thing that has changed is the constellations in which the ingredients are presented, and who serves them. The sound is clean and polished, and the vocals contain just the right amount of anger to match the fiery music.
The songs “Chase’N’Pain”, “One Of Us” and “So Cold Inside” are filled with a lot of musclepower. I would really like to experience these songs live. I imagine how these songs transform the dance floor into a sweaty and naked moshpit. If I wanted to listen to this kind of music at home, I would probably rather play Nitzer Ebb. But NZ still have something to offer that Nitzer Ebb does not – live shows. Nitzer Ebb hasn’t toured as a band for a few years now. Recently, the singer Douglas McCarthy has focused on his side project Fixmer/McCarthy instead. Nitzer Ebb’s absence has created a gap in this scene’s music world. A gap that NZ could fill! I think that NZ will be able to succeed by comforting the people who miss Nitzer Ebb.
