Talos är död – länge leve Talos!
Efter tre års frånvaro, som har resulterat i ett par musikaliska utflykter på annat håll, så återvänder nu grekiska PreEmptive Strike 0.1 med “Epos V”. Detta är bandets femte album sedan man debuterade med “Lethal Defence Systems” 2006.
Den nya “Epos V” inleds med en relativt lyckad svängig cover på Sabatons “Coat of Arms”, som även bland bonusspåren ges en typisk tysk synthpoptolkning via ett gästspel av Endanger. I övrigt tar det nya albumet mycket vid där föregångaren “T.A.L.O.S.” (2012) avslutades. Bandets folkmusik- och dark metal-influenser är fortsatt mycket tydliga vilket skapar en spännande och egensinnig mix av flera olika stilar.
På något sorts speedat Laibach-manér radar “Epos V” upp elektroniska folkmusik-hymner i högt och dansant tempo. Det gäller dock att sortera ut russinen ur den här stundtals lite slätstrukna kakan. Femte delen av albumet huvudtema “Quest For The Golden Fleece: A Heroic Epos In Five Acts” med titeln “Act IV Medea’s Threnody” liksom själva dödförklaringen av Talos i eposets sista del “The Death of Talos” håller hög klass.
För er som har förträngt era grekiska mytologi-kunskaper från skoltiden så är Talos den där jätten i brons som Zeus gav till sin älskarinna Europa efter att han dumpade henne på Kreta. Den skapades av Hefaistos och cykloperna och det påstås också att Talos vara en av bronsålderns sista män och faktiskt ensam om att ha överlevt de mindre gudarnas styre. Han blev kvar på ön efter det att Europa tog med honom dit för att vakta den.
Det grekiska mytologi-temat passar givetvis PreEmptive Strike 0.1 perfekt. Duon bildades på Kreta och även om “Epos V” måhända inte är deras starkaste album så är detta ett väldigt trevligt inslag i det i övrigt ganska tråkiga generiska överflödet av dark- och hellectroakter som florerar därute.

Talos is dead – Long live Talos!
After a three year absence that have resultet in a couple of musical excursions elsewhere Greek Preemptive Strike 0.1 now returns with “Epos V”. This is the band’s fifth album since they debuted with “Lethal Defence Systems” in 2006.
“Epos V” starts up with a relatively successful cover of Sabaton’s “Coat of Arms” and the song is also included in a typically German synth pop interpretation with a guest-appearance from Endanger among the bonus tracks. In the bigger picture this album picks it all up where the predecessor “T.A.L.O.S.” (2012) ended. The band’s folk- and dark metal music influences remains very clear, creating an exciting and idiosyncratic mix of several different styles.
In some sort of speeded Laibach-mannerisms “Epos V” lines up a number of electronic folk-hymns in a high and danceable tempo. Some sorting of the best tracks are howewer needed in this a little bit unewen package. Part Five of the album’s main theme “Quest For The Golden Fleece: A Heroic Epic in Five Acts” with the title “Act IV Medea’s Threnody” as well as the actual death of Talos in the epos’ final part “The Death of Talos” are both high class tracks.
For those of you who have repressed your Greek mythology knowledge from your school time Talos is that bronze giant that Zeus gave to his mistress Europe after he dumped her on Crete. It was created by Hephaestus and the Cyclops, and it is also alleged that Talos was of the Bronze Age’s last men, and indeed the only one who survived the lesser gods ruling. He remained on the island after Europe took him there to guard it.
The Greek mythology theme fits PreEmptive Strike 0.1’s music perfectly. The duo was indeed formed in Crete and even though “Epos V” might not be their strongest album to date it is an original and strong input into an overall quite boring generic scene of dark- and hellectroacts that we’ve got these days.
