Som en outtömlig brunn av detaljer att upptäcka
Irländaren Richard D. James elektroniska kompositioner under hans mest kända moniker Aphex Twin har ständigt fångat mitt intresse sedan jag upptäckte “Analogue Bubblebath”-serien och samlingen “Selected Ambient Works 85-92” under nittiotalets början.
När han nu presenterar Aphex Twins första studioalbum sedan “Drukqs” som släpptes för snart fjorton år sedan (2001) så dröjer det inte många sekunder in i den inledande “Minipops 67 (Sound Field Mix)” innan den långa väntetiden är totalt bortglömd och fullkomligt förlåten.
Richard D. James har alltid gått sin egen väg med Aphex Twin och inga undantag råder den här gången heller. “Syro” fullkomligt sprudlar av nya smarta idéer och Richards fantastiska känsla för både rytmer och melodier består. Faktum är att presentationen och sammansättningen inte kunde ha varit mer perfekt.
“Syro” är genomtänkt utan att bli pretentiös och ljudlandskapet blir till en outtömlig brunn av detaljer att upptäcka. Höjdpunkterna är otroligt många och Aphex Twin lyckas med den fantastiska bedriften att låta millimeterprecis och improvisativ i ett och samma moment.
Den jazziga “Produk 29” och de härligt skruvade och vackert analog-skimrande numren “Circlont14 (Shrymoming Mix)” och “4 Bit 9d Api+e+6” är bara några av höjdpunkterna på “Syro” som är en intelligent elektronisk albumklassiker som med sträckt rygg stolt och orörd kommer att bestå medan dubstep och plastig arenahouse dör den stora självdöden.

Like an inexhaustible well of details to discover
Irishman Richard D. James electronic compositions on his most famous moniker Aphex Twin has captured my interest since I discovered the “Analogue Bubblebath” series and the collection “Selected Ambient Works 85-92” in the beginning of the nineties.
When he now presents Aphex Twins first studio album since “Drukqs” which was released almost fourteen years ago (2001) it doesn’t take many seconds into the initial track “Minipops 67 (SoundField Mix)” before the long wait is totally forgotten and completely forgiven.
Richard D. James has always gone his own way with Aphex Twin and no exceptions prevail this time either. “Syro” is absolutely bursting with smart new ideas and Richards amazing touch for both rhythms and melodies still stands strong. In fact, the complete presentation and composition could not have been more perfect.
“Syro” is well planned without being pretentious and the soundscape becomes an inexhaustible well of details to discover. The highlights are many and Aphex Twin succeeds in the amazing feat in how to be millimeter precise and improvisativ in one hole momentum.
The jazzy “Produc 29” and the delightfully twisted and beautiful analog-shimmering numbers “Circlont14 (Shrymoming Mix)” and “4 Bit 9d Api + e + 6” are only some of the highlights on “Syro” which is an intelligent electronic album-classic that will stretch proudly and completely untouched will persist while the dubstep and plastic arena house will die the great death.
